About John Barrett

Author and academic John Barrett holds an MA from Hollins University in English writing and literature and an MFA in creative writing from Virginia Commonwealth University. A former adjunct in English at Susquehanna University and East Stroudsburg, he has been working and teaching at Bloomsburg University for more than a decade. During this time, he has taught a variety of writing and introductory courses, such as Composition, Creative Writing, College Research Writing, and Introduction to Literature. At Bloomsburg, John Barrett has also handled various departmental duties required of a full-time faculty member and holds tenure at the institution.

Alongside his work as a professor, Mr. Barrett is also the coordinator of online student support curricula at Bloomsburg. In this capacity, he conducts an inventory of all online teaching methods and researches current trends in online instructional tools. Based on this information, he makes recommendations for the university that facilitate distance learning. Mr. Barrett is also an adjunct English instructor at Luzerne County Community College, consulting with faculty on current research and teaching methods.

Outside of work, John Barrett is a writer of fiction, memoir, and poetry. He maintains an active research interest in the arts and pop culture. He is fond of both experimental and genre television and movies, and is particularly drawn to fantasy and horror narratives. Further, he enjoys music, theater, baseball, health and fitness. He is an avid reader on topics relating to philosophy, science, and poetry, from which he collects famous quotes.
